*Steamroller 6* is right around the corner!
Mark your calendars, kids! Saturday, March 31 at 12 noon we will be hosting our 6th Privateer Press tournament, aptly named: *Steamroller 6*! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the world of “organized play” that the good people from PP has setup, Steamroller is a full day-long event where you will play (in this case) 3 games using a 50 point army and have 2 lists (from the same faction). Since it going to be a long day of games-games-games, we will do our best to provide drinks and food for all of our players- that’s right! You get a hot meal (at approx 3-4 PM) and 2 cold drinks (cans of pop) from our fridge! The best part of this event? If there’s enough people (min 20) then we will be awarding TROPHIES to the TOP 3! What more could you ask for: food, drinks, games, prizes?

What a Warmachine weekend (WAWW)!
I am exhausted just thinking about all of the games and events we hosted in this very brief 48 hour span of time. Special thanks go out to Adriaan R for the countless Warmachine Hordes demos he hosted for us! Take a bow, Adriaan- you deserve it! Also, thanks go out to Ivan and Mischa R for their tireless support and all of their help setting up our events. Without you two to help, our events would not be the same!
What was different about this Steamroller compared to the previous one?
We had a total of 6 brand new people join our growing community with more to come at our next event (*Steamroller 6*: Saturday, March 31 at 12 Noon)! We’ve met with other games clubs and play groups, started a Year-Long League (see side navigation) with Brian S and the War Room, and run countless demos with more to come in 2012! If you’re a new player or a rreturning player from Mark 1, please send me a n e-mail or join our FaceBook Group: “Edmonton Warmachine Hordes“!
Here come some changes: from this point forward we have to enforce some special rules whenever we have an odd number of players in our Steamroller:
1. The player that receives the “Bye” will receive full Match Points (3 MPs)
2. The player that receives the “Bye” will receive a vote for Best Sportsman
3. The player that receives the “Bye” will receive full Assassination Points (1 AP)
4. The player that receives the “Bye” will receive zero Control Points (0 CP)
5. The player that receives the “Bye” will receive zero Attrition Points
6. The player that receives the “Bye” will receive zero Survival Points
Getting the “Bye” shouldn’t be a detriment and shouldn’t take you out of the event before you even get a chance to play. Conversely, it shouldn’t be something that is desired or shouldn’t give that player an advantage over all of the other players who are able to play in the event. It’s going to be tricky finding thatbalance point, but we will do our best to do so- if you have a suggestion for us, pleae let us know! The “Bye” is awarded at random in the first round, and then the player with the lowest overall standing receives the “Bye” each round thereafter.
Big congrats go out to GORD W!
Gord is our first-ever two-time Warmachine Hordes Steamroller Champion! Now, what makes this feat more impressive is that he used two different armies (Circle Orboros in *Steamroller 3* and Minions) and played in two different point totals (50 points in SR3 and 35 points in SR5)! Great job, Gord!
We also had three other prizes/awards: Best Painted Army, Best Sportsman and a random draw (“Grind” Boardgame)!
With each successive Steamroller, the painted armies are getting more and more elaborate and beautiful! I will do my best to upload some pictures, but the prerelease is calling me… We also had a five-way tie for Best Sportsman this time around! And congrats to Joel for winning the “Grind” game!

*Privateer Press Warmachine Hordes Edmonton Red Deer St. Albert Alberta
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Warmachine / Hordes, it’s a “skirmish” level miniature war game- using small groups of models.”Steamroller” is a tournament line supported by the manufacturer, Privateer Press! So, today we were fortunate enough to draw 16 people from the gorgeous weather outside and the Capital Ex midway to play in our event! Hope everyone had fun, I sure did hosting! If you’re interested in starting this game, we have our next league (“Shattered Grounds: Sand Narrows“) starting Saturday, September 24 at 1 PM and our next Steamroller is Saturday, October s9 at 12 noon!
In our event, we scored “Match Wins” = 3 and “Match Losses” as 1, then we used “Assassination Points”, “Control Points”, “Attrition” and “Survival Scores” as tie breakers. Here’s the break down according to my own handwritten notes:
1st Place: Tyler W (Khador)
Match: 12, Assassin: 3, Control: 2, Attrition: 123, Survival: 104
2nd Place: Kade F (Skorne)
Match: 10, Assassin: 3, Control: 1, Attrition: 59, Survival: 119
3rd: Adam S (Trollblood)
Match: 7, Assassin: 2, Control: 1, Attrition: 86, Survival: 69
4th: Tyson L (Cygnar)
Match: 7, Assassin: 2, Control: 0, Attrition: 79, Survival: 74
5th: Gord W (Circle)
Match: 7, Assassin: 2, Control: 0, Attrition: 77, Survival: 80

Match: 5, Assassin: 1, Control: 0, Attrition: 51, Survival: 97
11th: Cory C (Legion)
Match: 5, Assassin: 1, Control: 0, Attrition: 48, Survival: 47
12th: Laing P (Retribution)
Match: 5, Assassin: 0, Control: 2, Attrition: 28, Survival: 39
13th: Meric M (Legion)
Match: 5, Assassin: 0, Control: 2, Attrition: 16, Survival: 106
14th: Adriaan R (Cryx)

16th: Nigel B (Khador)
Match: 3, Assassin: 0, Control: 0, Attrition: 29, Survival: 46
Lots of numbers… Some things to note: Tyson L brought the wrong bag and consequently left his army back in Red Deer- he used a friends Cygnar army which he hadn’t played before and placed 4th: the highest he’s ever gotten! The real story is Kade F, who is relatively new to game. He defeated Ryan T (our previous Steamroller champion) in Round 3 and made it all the way to the Finals before losing to Tyler W! Great job, Kade!

EDIT (July 25): So many grammatical and selling errors… me am bad righter
On Saturday, July 30 at 12 Noon we will be hosting our second Steamroller event for Privateer Press’ fan-fave game Warmachine/Hordes!
I have a few small changes in mind that will both speed things up and make things easier for everyone involved:
*“Pen-Paper Record Keeping”: that’s right we’re taking a full step backwards and using good old fashioned pen and paper to record our results and put together our standings
*“Bring-Your-Own-Terrain”: Not everyone has the time to both paint their army AND make terrain, but I’d like to see what terrain pieces you’re using at home! If you don’t have any terrain, no problem! This is optional =)
*“Flight System”: I will be borrowing elements from Magic: The Gathering’s events scene and combining it with my own “Flight” system: basically, we will have everyone separated into “Pools” or “Flights” of Eight players. During the three rounds of Swiss, players will only play against other players in their pool/flight. After we have a finished our 3 rounds and put together out standings, we will then do a Top Four or Top Two cut (depending on how many undefeated players we have) from all of the pools/flights who will then be entered into an Elimination Finals round.
*Edmonton St. Albert Pressganger: Didn’t think this would be a hard position to fill. If you’re interested, please send me a message!
*“Can’t Find Something?”: I can help! E-mail me your list of figs that you can’t find and I may be able to get them for you. In order for me to have them unhand and ready before the event, please let me know before Tuesday!
*Positive Feedback: I take negative feedback like a champ- it’s a good way for me to learn new things and make future events better. But, I’d like to hear what you “LIKE” about our events and if you had fun- tell others about us! Is this shameless self-promotion? Absolutely! I think we need to hear from everyone and we need to hear the good as well as the bad- right, Ryan?
*Why No Trophies This Time, Roy???: Good question, I’d like to use these 3 trophies to promote our upcoming events. They are expensive and I was fortunate to have them here before the event, (thank you local Canadian distributor!). So, if its okay with everyone, we will use them in our next Steamroller which takes place in October 2011!
*READ THIS DOCUMENT: Surprised by how many people didn’t read my previous Steamroller post- in fact, no one may be reading this post… asfjefbjebggnwrgnklwgnklwn Take the 2 minutes to read this document so that when you play in our Steamroller event, you’ll know what’s going on!
So, here we go!
Regards,
Roy Kim

Andrew’s Khador army vs Dorian’s Minion army!
Sick team game: Trollbloods (Matt + Ivan) vs Cryx (Adriaan + Mark)! Not sure exactly what the 40k equivalent of this is, but both sides were using 100 point armies- which is enormous!
Neil’s Cygnar army- gotta say these looked incredible! The blurry pictures do not do the paint job justice.
Some of Ivan’s Skorne army! These things are easily larger than a Hive Tyrant (Tyrannid HQ) and made of solid metal! Beautiful paint job!

Where’s Roy’s Army?Started putting together an army just before Christmas, but like always, it’s been busy. I’m going to try and have it done for the Finale, but we’ll have to see how far I can get.Regards,iRoyEdmonton St. Albert Alberta
